Activities
The Society for the Preservation of Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, Inc. was formed under the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law of the State of New York to operate as a charitable corporation, focused on educating the public about the rich historical significance of the Village of Saranac Lake, New York and the historic tradition of hosting an annual winter carnival in the Village of Saranac Lake, New York and providing financial support necessary to ensure that the tradition of the winter carnival continues.
Operations
Through its board, the Society for the Preservation of Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, Inc. will solicit donations that will be used to defer the costs of producing an annual winter carnival, including the costs of the construction of the Ice Palace and hosting specific events such as fundraising dinners, trivia nights, Winter Royalty events, and fun runs. The majestic nature of the Ice Palace and diversity embedded in the events comprising the winter carnival are demonstrative of the carnival's aim to bring people together during the cold winter months to share in community in a health benefiting way.
In furtherance of its charitable purposes, the Society for the Preservation of Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, Inc. has created a mobile educational unit referred to as the History Hut and Gift Shop. The History Hut displays photos and memorabilia of winter carnivals past and present. In this way, through the History Hut and Gift Shop, the Society for the Preservation of Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, Inc. helps educate the public as to the historical significance and tradition of hosting an annual winter carnival in the Village of Saranac Lake, New York. Moreover, the gift shop sells Winter
Carnival related items such as buttons, flags, posters among other desirable
keep sakes, which attract members of the public to partake in the winter
carnival and the profits from the sale of which partially offsets the carnival's
annual production costs.
